What are these roles?

A suitable Parish Council member represents the wider church, in particular their home congregation, and joins with the Rector in “ensuring the affairs of the Parish are properly conducted”. More importantly, a Parish Council member is committed to life with Jesus for themselves, as they demonstrate a passion for the vision and welfare of Wellspring.

A suitable Warden will fit the above description also, as well as having a greater degree of responsibility in the spiritual discernment and welfare of Wellspring Parish (our people and property).

A suitable Synod Representative commits to attending the annual parliament-style meeting of all Anglican parishes and agencies, over a three year term. They join with the Rector in representing Wellspring to the wider Anglican Diocese of Tasmania, taking their part in the mission of "a church for Tasmania, making disciples of Jesus". Wellspring Synod Representatives also sit on Parish Council as full members.

A suitable Nomination Committee member will be called on if/when the Rector of Wellspring's position becomes vacant. They will need to be a maturing disciple of Jesus, who is familiar with Wellspring's strengths and weaknesses, and is willing to work with Diocesan representatives to bring a recommendation of candidates to the Bishop to be the next Senior Pastor/Rector of Wellspring.

God binds together love for Him and love for people, such that one without the other is unthinkable. In fact, Jesus says in Matthew 22:37-40:

"Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and most important command. The second is like it: Love your neighbour as yourself. All the Law and the Prophets depend on these two commands."

Notice that final line: the whole Old Testament is summed up in these "two commands", which is like saying, they are inseparable.

This conviction lies at the heart of our Diocese's approach to providing redress to survivors of child sexual abuse, perpetrated by Anglican leaders and/or permitted by Anglican institutions. It would be the height of hypocrisy for a church to confess love for God with their lips, and withhold justice from vulnerable people. 

A large step in justice-making was taken several years ago, as surplus and under-utilised church assets were sold to supply enough funds for Redress payments. The recent Synod (Anglican parliament) made further decisions to fund updated costs, which Wellspring fully supports. You can read Bishop Richard explain it in the link above.

My name is Julia Walter and I used to attend Wellspring before I moved to Canberra in 2018. I have just started a two year ministry apprenticeship with AFES; working with the local student group at the University of Canberra (UC) called the Fellowship of Christian University Students (FOCUS). As a sinner saved by the grace of Jesus Christ, I desire to make known the riches of God’s love and mercy found in Jesus to students at UC through the work that FOCUS does. I was a nursing student at UC in 2018-2019 and saw the great need for the Gospel to be heard by students there. There are currently four AFES staff workers at UC, with a growing number of students involved with FOCUS, both believers and unbelievers, but also many students not yet reached. I would love for you to partner with me in this ministry through prayer, financial giving or relationship and encouragement. It is so exciting that as the body of Christ we are, in prayerful dependence on God, all working together to make disciples of all nations. Please consider joining me in doing this at UC.
